The city of Fort Worth came up with a huge grant to help the community for opioid intervention.

Fort Worth awarded more than $300,000 to SaferCare Texas and the UNT Health Science Center's School of Public Health to provide opioid intervention education to the community.

SaferCare Texas Interim Director Teresa Wagner says the education will focus on train-the-trainer sessions to provide education on the dangers of opioids.

The UNT Health Science Center says opioid overdoses reached a three-year high in Fort Worth in 2022. In August of that year, MedStar treated an average of three people a day for opioid overdoses.
