Dr. Kent Scribner is stepping down from his position as Superintendent of the Fort Worth ISD, he announced on social media today.
"Last month, I informed our Board of Trustees that I plan to retire at the conclusion of my employment contract. Tuesday night, the Board will discuss my retirement and begin to consider the search process for the next superintendent of Fort Worth ISD" Scribner wrote in a tweet on socia media along with a copy of his notification to the President of the Board of Edication.
In a video posted to YouTube, Dr. Scribner thanked the FWISD community for being “the best partners in educating children I could ask for.”
Norman Quigley with the Fort Worth Education Association says he was surprised by the announcement.
"We really had a great relationship as far as working with him," Quigley tells KRLD news, "and we look forward (hearing about the) decision he wants to make, whether it's spending more time with his family or whatever it is."
Some community members have criticized Scribner amid falling test scores in recent years.
Quigley says it's completely unfair to pin that on Scribner.
"When he first came, he was doing great, everything was up," says Quigley. "But then we came in with the COVID and kids were having to learn from home, which has not been too successful because we know that kids learn better in a classroom."
Scribner's contract expires on August 31, 2024.
The school board will discuss Scribner's retirement at a special meeting next Tuesday, January 18.
