Governor Greg Abbott held a news briefing at the Spur Arena in San Angelo on Thursday, reporting that the statewide death toll from the July 4th Central Texas floods has risen to 135, with 116 of those fatalities occurring in the Kerrville area - a total that encompasses 107 confirmed deaths in Kerr County and 9 in nearby Kendall County.

He emphasized that search and recovery operations are ongoing in all affected regions and praised Tom Green County - including San Angelo - for its effective, model-level emergency response.

Abbott was joined by local officials, TDEM Chief Nim Kidd, state lawmakers, and first responders, noting that this disaster “surpasses even Hurricane Harvey in terms of lives lost in a Texas flood,” and saying that response efforts in San Angelo began as early as July 3 with the deployment of rescue teams.
