(Fort Worth, TX) -- Hundreds of TCU students, faculty, and other members of the community gathered around Frog Fountain on campus last night -- remembering a friend and classmate who was murdered last week.

Junior Wes Smith was gunned down Friday in Fort Worth's West Seventh entertainment district.

The man charged with the murder is Matthew Purdy, and police say he could not give a reason for shooting Smith when questioned by investigators.

Last night, a large crowd gathered to show their support for Smith's family, who had arrived from Memphis, where Smith grew up and graduated from high school, where he was student body president and captain of the football team.

A funeral will be held next week in Memphis.
