The city is demanding that the streaming giants pay franchise fees since they use wires in public rights of way to deliver their content.
Irving isn't the only North Texas city seeking money from streaming services. Dallas, Grand Prairie, Plano and Frisco are also seeking similar legal action.
The move comes as customers have shifted from traditional cable television providers, such as AT&T and Spectrum, which are required to pay franchise fees to cities, to streaming services, which do not pay such fees, according to NBCDFW.com.
