The Keller ISD school board has voted unanimously to offer Interim Superintendent Cory Wilson the job moving forward. Wilson has worked for Keller ISD 23 years and became interim superintendent in January.

Wilson replaced Tracy Johnson, who resigned after the school board considered a plan to split Keller ISD in two, creating a new school district for kids who live west of Highway 377. The plan drew criticism from parents; students walked out of high schools in the district to protest earlier this year.

Keller ISD dropped the plan in May.

Wilson has worked in education 27 years and spent 23 years with Keller ISD. The district says he started as a math and science teacher at Parkwood Hill Intermediate School then became assistant principal and later principal of Bette Perot Elementary. He joined district staff in 2013.

"Dr. Wilson's background in education and his history with KISD is well documented," School Board President John Birt said during a meeting Thursday.

The school board approved hiring Wilson unanimously. Terms of his contract have not yet been disclosed.

"I look forward to working with this board," Wilson said after the vote. "We have a bright future ahead of us. We have a great team, and we're going to do great things."
