A McKinney teenager has pleaded guilty to murdering his mother, now a jury will decide his punishment.
The brutal death of Stacy Barney happened in the family's home in the 700 block of Donelson Drive on January 3rd 2021. The suspect, Adam Barney was 15-years-old then. He's 17-years-old now.
Barney now admits he used a hammer to beat his mother, used his hands to choke her to death, and also attacked his father who survived.
A jury will decide his punishment.
There is home surveillance video of the attack that prosecutors wanted to use in the trial, but the defense said it was too disturbing to send to the jury that will decide a sentence.
The judge is allowing part, but not all of the video to be used. The punishment range for the jury is between 5-years in prison and life in prison with a chance for parole.
