Known for his daily light-hearted segment The Other Side of the News, morning news anchor Mike Rogers celebrates 30 years at NewsRadio 1080 KRLD on Wednesday.
Rogers started at KRLD in 1992 -- first as a reporter -- before moving to the anchor chair in 1998.
As a reporter, Mike covered the Branch Davidian compound fire in Waco and a riot at the Dallas Cowboys victory parade in 1993, World Cup matches played at Dallas' Cotton Bowl in 1994, and the relighting of the city's iconic Pegasus atop the Magnolia building on New Year's Eve 1999.
Rogers anchored the KRLD Afternoon News from 1998 until 2005 when he switched to mornings. Meanwhile, he continued to put together the feature that has become his trademark – The Other Side of the News. Rogers estimates he has put together more than 3,000 segments for the feature -- including a period of time when he recorded two a day!
Through the years at KRLD, Rogers has anchored alongside Clarissa Douglas, Alice Rios, Brad Barton, Carla Marion, Mitch Carr, Ernie Brown, Melissa Harrison, Amanda Guerra, Susy Solis, and North Texas TV legends Jocelyn White, Iola Johnson, Tracy Rowlett and Scott Sams.
"The Newsradio 1080 team and DFW audience has been incredibly fortunate to have Mike by our side and in our ears for 30 years," Audacy Dallas market manager Brian Purdy said. "Through our darkest moments and most exhilarating days, we've trusted Mike for his timely, accurate, and memorable reporting. And when we needed it, Mike's uplifting humor to be thankful for the world we live in. Congratulations and thank you for 30 tremendous years, Mike!"
A Dallas native, Rogers started his radio career at KEXO-AM in Grand Junction, Colorado, which at the time played big band music. A move to KWIC-FM in Beaumont for two years brought him back to his home state before a move to KDMX-FM brought him to Dallas.
After four years at then-Magic 102.9 in Dallas, Rogers landed at KRLD in 1992.
