North Texans are wondering about Chronic Venous Insufficiency which is the condition now linked to President Donald Trump.
"Dr. Mo," who chairs Internal Medicine at the Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at TCU, says it happens when blood flows down to the legs but doesn't return to the heart properly.
He says the most serious problem associated with it is if blood clots form.
"It can be a life-threatening condition particularly if they break off and go to the lungs and cause something called 'pulmonary emboli,' that needs to be examined quickly," Dr. Mo said. "That's a little bit more on the acute side meaning it's happened very quickly."
Dr. Mo says treatment often includes cutting back on salt, staying active, and possibly wearing compression socks to improve circulation.
"The vascular specialist will typically make that recommendation and then give you options for how you can use that to really help the condition," Dr. Mo said.
The White House said the condition was benign and common and there is no evidence that the president is suffering from the more serious deep vein thrombosis.
