Some disappointing news for bird lovers.

Cases of bird flu have been confirmed in North Texas, fewer than 100 miles from the Dallas Zoo. Officials say they're doing everything in their power to keep their birds healthy.

The Dallas Zoo says many of its birds will stay behind the scenes until the threat passes. That includes crowd pleasers like penguins and flamingos. Certain exhibits, like the Forest Aviary and Birds Landing, are going to be closed for the time being, as well.

The Fort Worth Zoo is taking similar precautions. In addition to keeping birds out of the spotlight, pools and ponds are being drained in certain habitats. Zoo officials say they're stepping up cleaning measures, too.
