A school police officer in the Corsicana Independent School District is injured Wednesday morning after accidentally firing their weapon inside Bowie Elementary School, about an hour south of Dallas.

District officials say no students or staff were hurt and the incident was contained to a single room on campus.

The shooting happened around 9:20 a.m., prompting an immediate response from school administrators and local law enforcement. The officer, who is authorized to carry a firearm on campus, was treated for injuries and is expected to recover.

Corsicana ISD says it is cooperating with the Corsicana Police Department as investigators work to determine how the weapon discharged. The district did not release additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident or the officer’s identity.

Classes continued under normal operations after the scene was secured, and officials emphasized that students were never in danger.
