Leading up to the Great North American Eclipse, which will be visible over the North Texas area on Monday, April 8, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science is going big.
To ensure the safety of as many viewers as possible, the Perot Museum has undertaken a massive initiative to provide eclipse glasses for the public.
"We have actually garnered 1,000,000 pairs of eclipse glasses so people can use these to safely view the eclipse on that day," Perot Museum CEO Linda Silver said.
The distribution effort includes more than 575 schools and 37 school districts along the pathway of totality in the region, including in Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD, Arlington ISD, Denton ISD, and others.
"It won't happen again for almost 400 more years," Silver said.
The museum is not only focused on eye safety but also aims to make the event a memorable experience for the community, especially the younger generation.
"We'll have 29 astronomers from the Carnegie Institution For Science traveling to Dallas to take part in community events in the week leading up to the eclipse," Silver added.
The museum will also host a range of activities, including food trucks, DJs, live music, and various science activities on the day of the eclipse.

In addition to their on-site efforts, the Perot Museum is collaborating with neighboring Klyde Warren Park for an eclipse watch party, providing complimentary glasses for attendees.
To further extend its outreach, Tech Trucks and educators from the museum will be present at dozens of community events across North Texas, distributing an additional 25,000 eclipse glasses.
As part of the lead-up to the eclipse, the Perot Museum is also offering a special promotion during the North Texas spring break.
"Anybody who comes to the Perot Museum and purchases a ticket will get a complimentary pair of eclipse glasses with their admission," Silver said.
