Halloween should be all treats and no tricks, but sometimes it comes with its hazards.
The North Texas Poison Center at Parkland Health (NTPC) gets more than 1,200 exposure calls each Halloween. The majority of those calls are about kids under the age of five biting into glow sticks or necklaces.
Officials say the glowing goo is not poisonous but it can cause some irritation where there's exposure, so you need to rinse it off immediately. The same thinking goes with reactions to costume makeup.
The center's LizBeth Petty says they also receive calls about kids mistaking medications and gummies for candy.
Officials remind parents that candy should only be eaten if it's in the original, unopened wrappers. The North Texas Poison Center hotline is available for questions 24/7 by calling 1-800-222-1222.
