Students at Wilmer-Hutchins High School are walking out of their classes Monday morning in protest of the shooting that happened Friday.

With extra police on campus, students originally returned to school today following the shooting. Police say a 17-year-old student is in custody, accused of shooting another student in the leg. The victim is recovering.

Police say it was a targeted attack but they are not saying what led to the shooting.

Our media partner NBC 5 was outside the school when students began leaving the building. Students who stopped to speak with NBC 5 said they were concerned for their safety and that the people hired to keep the campus safe weren't doing their job.

Meanwhile, investigators are trying to figure out how the gun got into the building. Wilmer Hutchins has metal detectors and a clear backpack policy, but the gun was smuggled in any way.

In addition to extra security, counselors are also on campus for anyone who needs them.
