Voters across several North Texas cities selected mayors Saturday, with Frisco setting a record for turnout in a municipal election and electing a new mayor to succeed a term-limited incumbent.

Former Frisco school board trustee Mark Hill defeated retired businessman Rod Vilhauer in the city's mayoral race. Hill will replace Mayor Jeff Cheney, who was barred from seeking another term because of term limits.

In Denton, former Mayor Chris Watts narrowly reclaimed the office, defeating Brian Beck by just 47 votes. Watts will succeed Mayor Gerard Hudspeth, who served three terms and was ineligible to run again due to term limits.

The result marks a return to city hall for Watts, who served as mayor before Hudspeth. Six years ago, Hudspeth succeeded Watts after Watts reached his term limit.

Farmers Branch Mayor Terry Lynne won a closely contested re-election bid, defeating challenger Jaime Rivas by 25 votes.

Meanwhile, Cleburne voters elected a new mayor after seven-term incumbent Scott Cain chose not to seek re-election. City Councilman Derek Weathers defeated fellow Councilman Blake Jones to win the seat.

The elections will bring new leadership to Frisco and Cleburne while returning a familiar face to the mayor's office in Denton. Farmers Branch voters opted to keep their current mayor in office for another term.
