Relative of triple murder victims speaks out

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A relative of two of the three victims in this week's triple murder at a Fort Worth used car is speaking out.

"We're all very broken, and we're leaning on each other," says Becky Rodriguez, the niece of Jenny Lewis and the sister of Veronica Jones.

The two women, along with Clay Turrentine, were shot to death at the used car lot that Turrentine owned.

"They both had a heart of gold," says Rodriguez. "Either one of them would do anything for you."

On her aunt, Jenny Lewis, Rodriguez said, "She's so fun to be around. Her laugh is contagious. We're going to miss her so much."

Rodriguez says her sister, Veronica Jones, was never afraid to speak her mind.

"She had attitude; but you know what, she had a heart of gold too," says Rodriguez. "She was not afraid to speak her mind; this kind of runs in our family."

And her sister would go out of her way to help family.

"I wasn't able to have kids, and my sister -- she volunteered to have a kid for me," Rodriguez says. "That's how much of a heart of gold she has."

Lamont Cousins, 44, and Andrew Vandermeer, 32, are charged with capital murder and are in the Fort Worth city jail on $1 million bond each.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from a dispute over Cousins selling the dealership a vehicle that had a lien on it and had been repossessed after it was subsequently sold.

"Clay, the owner, was ready to write that off. It wasn't a big deal," Rodriguez says. "So what if he lost some money, he didn't care.

"This guy planned to go in and kill my family and Clay over ... a car deal gone bad," Rodriguez continued. "We lose our family members because of this."

Rodriguez offers some words of advice for everyone.

"Just love, hug, tell your loved ones you love them, because you don't know when it's going to be the last time," she said through tears.

Rodriguez has set up GoFundMe campaigns to help with her sister's and her aunt's funeral expenses.
