The City of Richardson will relocate several services normally offered at City Hall to the city's municipal court building after a fire on Monday caused extensive smoke and water damage.

The building's fire alarm went off just before 3:00am on Monday. Firefighters responded quickly and were able to bring the flames under control in about an hour. There were no injuries.

Investigators do not believe the fire was related to the storms that moved through on Monday. Their preliminary findings are that the fire was started by an electrical failure in an office on the first floor. The building could be closed for several weeks. Monday night's Richardson City Council meeting was held in the Community Meeting Room of the Richardson Public Library on Civic Center Drive.

Starting on Wednesday, most city services will be relocated to the Ray Noah Municipal Court Building at 2100 E. Campbell Road in Richardson. Those offices will include Development and Engineering Services, Code Enforcement, the Health Department and Building Inspection. Requests for inspections can be sent to AskRichardsonBuildingInspection@cor.gov.

The city is also setting up a temporary response line at 972-744-5690.

Residents can use that number to report water main breaks or outages. The Water Customer Service office will also be relocated to the municipal court building. However, the computer system the city uses to process water bill payments is down. Until further notice, there will be no late fees or other impacts to water service or service billing until the payment systems can be restored.
