The head football coach at Rockwall-Heath High has stepped down after a number of players were sent to the hospital after a workout.
Head coach and athletic coordinator John Harrell resigned Wednesday night, he had been on administrative leave after more than a dozen players had to be hospitalized following what's been described as an extreme workout back in January.
The players had to be treated for a stress-induced muscle disorder that can cause kidney damage, and in some cases can be fatal. The Rockwall ISD ordered a third-party investigation that concluded the workout "negatively affected the health of students," a violation of the district's policy.
CPS is also investigating.
