A serial bank robber will be going to prison in Texas for at least 11 years, and the man now has convictions in Florida and North Texas.
Federal prosecutors say 54-year old Thomas Joseph Banno was on probation for a bank robbery in Florida when he began robbing banks in North Texas.
In the months of June, July and August of 2021, Banno and his accomplice 36-year-old Sade Miranda Salters robbed five banks in Richardson and Dallas. In each robbery, Banno would go in with a mask, present a note demanding money in $50 and $100 bills, then flee in a Dodge Caravan.
On at least one occasion, Banno gestured as if he had a gun concealed under his shirt; on another, he told the teller he had a gun; and on two others, he brandished what appeared to be a silver pistol.
In one of the robberies, Salters decided to brag about it on social media, going live on Facebook herself holding a banded stack of cash taken in a robbery, she then panned the camera over to Bannon who was asleep in the backseat of the van that was seen leaving the scene.
Both Mr. Banno and Ms. Salters admitted in plea papers that they knowingly traveled from Florida to Texas with the intent to commit the robberies.
Salters is currently awaiting sentencing.
