Some Fort Worth second-graders will get new shoes Tuesday, and some older students will get free socks from a nonprofit group called Operation Warm.
The group is mostly known for providing warm winter coats to children from underprivileged homes. But Tuesday, second-graders at Fort Worth's Kirkpatrick Elementary will get brand new shoes instead.
Principal Nancy Atkinson said the free shoes are, "an essential item that increases confidence, improves learning and one that no one can go without."
Older students, fourth and fifth graders, will get free socks.
Kirkpatrick was among the campuses chosen by Operation Warm because of its demographics and needs.
