Dallas-based Southwest Airlines will make some cuts to its schedule for the rest of the year after dealing with flight delays and cancellations this summer.
"We’re confident these adjustments will create a more reliable travel experience," said Southwest Airlines Chairman and CEO Gary Kelly.
September's cuts will amount to less than one percent of the airline's flights. The number will go up in October, when the airline plans to trim 162 flights per day. That's 4.5% of the current schedule.
The airline is also planning schedule cuts for November and December, except during the busy periods around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Some of the unions representing Southwest's employees have complained recently about staffing shortages.
