Students returned to Wilmer-Hutchins High School on Wednesday for the first time since gunfire erupted on campus last week, sending several classmates to the hospital and prompting heightened security measures.

Police presence was visible around the school as classes resumed, with officers from both the Dallas Independent School District Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office patrolling the area. Signs addressing bullying were also seen near the campus, though it was unclear who placed them.

Teachers returned to campus on Tuesday to prepare for the students’ return. Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde said all 13 of the school's entry points — including the one used by the shooter — will be guarded by security personnel for the remainder of the school year. Officials will reevaluate those security measures at the end of the term.

The suspected shooter, a 17-year-old student, remains in the Dallas County Jail.
