A Texas Christian University student who graduated at the top of his high school class has been deported to El Salvador, federal immigration officials confirmed.
Luis Omar Andrade-Garcia, 20, was deported Tuesday following a local police encounter last month that triggered an outstanding federal immigration order.
Andrade-Garcia, who grew up in Arlington and graduated at the top of his class at Sam Houston High School, was arrested near Meadowbrook Park. While his attorney stated the local case was ultimately resolved as a Class C misdemeanor, the arrest triggered an immigration hold, resulting in his transfer into federal custody.
According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Andrade-Garcia had an outstanding removal order dating back to 2010.
His family and fraternity brothers have since launched a campaign to fight for his return to North Texas.
