The blood supply in north Texas is already low and last weeks winter weather didn't help. The need for blood remains critical.

Carter Blood Care had to shut down operations on Thursday and Friday at its north Texas locations due to the winter blast.
Linda Goelzer with Carter Blood Care says the timing of this was awful. "Carter has been in a critical blood shortage since early January, and we were just beginning to creep out of it, just enough,to make some headway then we had to shut down operations."
She says they need around 1,100 units of blood a day to achieve adequate levels, and for a limited time donors can receive certain rewards for donating blood.
"We have decided to offer double points for people who give blood through Tuesday, February 8th at any of our donor centers or blood drives."
Gelzer says Thursday and Friday tend to be their busiest donor days.
