Texas along with several other states is suing the federal government over a ban on exporting liquefied natural gas.

The White House announced what it called a "temporary pause" on permits for exporting liquefied natural gas to several countries earlier this year so the Department of Energy could study how those exports impact energy costs for American consumers and the production of greenhouse gases.

Texas and 15 other states have sued to get that ban overturned. They say the wide-ranging ban violates existing federal laws including the Natural Gas Act and jeopardizes billions of dollars in investments in new exporting facilities.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says the export ban is unconstitutional and violates policies in favor of exports that are part of the Natural Gas Act. He also says it will drive billions of dollars in investment away from Texas.

Companies are working on plans for two of those export terminals in south Texas.
