The TRA reports 9,000 restaurants have closed throughout the state since March 2020. Restaurant owners are pleading with the public to return.

Additionally, 75 percent of Texas operators said their restaurant is less profitable now than it was three months ago. 72 percent of restaurants are understaffed as the labor shortage continues. 45 percent of local operators think it will be more than 12 months until business normalizes while 15 percent think it never will.

President Emily Williams Knight says with the supply chain disrupted and staff shortages, many operators are feeling the pinch.

"We have grave concern with making these restaurant operators the testing arm of the federal government. Putting all the cost on them right now, is going to be a hardship that many will not be able to bear," Knight says.
