One of the two surviving Texas Seven killers is angling for new trial by claiming the judge was anti-Semitic.

Randy Halprin, who is Jewish, is due to appear in a Dallas County court room today as his lawyers argue Judge Vickers Cunningham, who is now retired, prejudiced the jury with anti-Semitic and racist remarks.

Halprin is one seven Texas inmates who escaped from the Connally Unit in late 2000. They came to North Texas and on Christmas Eve robbed an Irving sporting goods store for firearms and ammo. During their escape, they murdered Irving police officer Aubrey Hawkins.

One of the seven committed suicide rather than by captured. The other six were tried and convicted.

Four have now been executed. Only Halprin and Dallas native Patrick Murphy remain on Death Row.
