The Texas Supreme Court today cleared the way for a whistleblower to sue the city of Fort Worth.

Without comment, the Texas Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal by the city of Fort Worth in a lawsuit brought by former crime lab worker Trisa Crutcher.

With this decision, it means the case will go back to the original trial judge for further action.

In 2020, Crutcher reported improprieties in the way reports were filled out at the Fort Worth Police Department's crime lab. She was put on administrative leave after the District Attorney's office ruled Crutcher would not be able to testify during trials and she was subsequently fired.

Crutcher then filed a whistleblower suit.

The trial judge initially dismissed the lawsuit on immunity grounds but an appeals court reversed that finding. The Texas Supreme Court effectively upheld the appeals court's decision.
