A truckload of hay went up in smoke Thursday afternoon in a Dallas County trailer fire. The flatbed trailer caught fire in southern Dallas County on the Interstate 20 service road near Bonnie View Road.

Dallas firefighters rushed to the scene. Hay fires are notoriously stubborn because the hay underneath can smolder for a long time and -- as the trailer is offloaded -- the flames can flare up as oxygen reaches the fire.

Once the fire was doused, a heavy-duty tow rig was called in to remove the trailer so the service road could be re-opened Thursday evening.
