A statewide union that represents firefighters are raising concerns about the actions of Lancaster's fire chief.
In a letter to the Lancaster city council, the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters said Lancaster's fire chief has been making statements and taking actions that threaten the safety of the town.
The letter states that Fire Chief Kenneth Johnson has left some crucial firehouses understaffed, called his firefighters' devil's, false prophets, and Satan, and has made threatening remarks. TSAFF President John Riddle said the name-calling is unprofessional.
"I believe that it puts the firefighters at risk," Riddle said.
Mayor Clyde Hairston said there are two sides to the story and citizens are not in danger by the understaffing.
"I'm there, so I know that there were no safety issues or anything like that," Hairston said.
Lancaster City promised to send the public a statement but never did.
