As the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas approaches its 100th anniversary in 2025, it is gearing up for its most significant Reading Day yet, scheduled for Friday, March 1st.

"We know at United Way of Metropolitan Dallas that young readers make strong Texas leaders," emphasized Jennifer Sampson, President & CEO, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.

The event will feature Honorary Chair Mrs. Laura Bush, who will join volunteers in promoting early literacy by reading to young students.

The ambition for this year's Reading Day is to have over 1,000 volunteers from the community come together on Friday, March 1st, to motivate and inspire more than 20,000 young students across 42 local campuses.

The scale of the event is no small feat.

"It's our largest reading day by three times that we've ever hosted in North Texas," Sampson revealed.

Reading Day is pivotal for the student communities in North Texas, as it not only fosters a love for reading among children in local schools but also supports young learners in realizing their full potential.

United Way of Metropolitan Dallas invites individuals and groups interested in volunteering for Reading Day and contributing to early literacy efforts to sign up at unitedwaydallas.org/readingday.

Volunteer registration ends this Sunday, February 25.

Volunteers can also contribute to Reading Day by participating in virtual book drives, crafting personalized bookmarks for students, or supporting the Once Upon a Month program, which gifts free books to young children each month.
