FRISCO (1080 KRLD)- The Frisco City Council voted Tuesday to approve incentives to upgrade Toyota Stadium. FC Dallas has played at the stadium since 2005.

Hunt Sports Group, the owner of the stadium, developed a renovation plan and "requested funding participation from its public agency partners."

The Frisco City Council approved up to $182 million in sales tax revenue bonds. Of that total, 44% would come from a tax increment reinvestment zone and 20% would be paid by the Frisco Community Development Corporation.

The remaining 36% would be paid by Hunt Sports Group in a lease that would continue through the end of 2057. Hunt Sports Group would also be responsible for any costs in excess of $182 million.

The expansion would add 3,400 seats at Toyota Stadium, a 20% increase. Club spaces and luxury suites would be updated, and the concourse would include new shops, restrooms, and concessions stands.

Hunt Sports Group would also improve broadcast and technology capabilities "to meet current MLS standards."

"A new LED sports lighting system will be installed, along with major audio/visual upgrades," the council agenda reads.

A canopy covering the south end of the stadium would also be extended over the rest of the stands.

Outside the stadium, the ownership group intends to build up to 1.2 million square feet of office space, a hotel and apartments. The expansion would also include retail space, restaurants and a parking garage.

Hunt Sports Group would be required to start construction by the end of 2025 and complete the project by the end of 2028. The ownership group would sign a lease to stay at the stadium through 2057.
