The Dallas Wings host Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever tonight at American Airlines Center, with a planned news conference and rally outside the arena hours before tip-off.
The game is set for 7 p.m. Thursday. According to NBC 5, Indiana is 24-12 and chasing its 25th win. Dallas is 20-16. NBC 5 reports this is the Wings’ last scheduled home game at the AAC this season.
Texas Values said it will hold a 4 p.m. news conference and rally outside the arena by the jumbotron. In a post on X, the group said Moms for Liberty, Moms for America and the Independent Council on Women’s Sports are among the organizers. The event is in support of Fever guard Sophie Cunningham after she told ESPN she wants to “protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.” CBS Texas reports Cunningham later said she was answering a question and was not trying to make a statement.
Texas Values and a number of organizations including @Moms4Liberty, @momsforamerica, @icons_women, and others will be holding a press conference at 4p.m. on Thursday, August 20 outside the American Airlines Center in front of the large jumbotron. CBS Texas and The Associated Press report similar rallies for and against Cunningham’s position have followed the Fever to other cities, including Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, Minnesota and Toronto.
On the court, the teams met Friday in Indianapolis. The Associated Press reported Indiana won 98-87. Clark scored 29 points with 10 assists. Paige Bueckers had 29 points for Dallas. Arike Ogunbowale added 20.
NBC 5 reports the Wings have lost five of their last six and that rookie Azzi Fudd remains sidelined with a knee injury. Tickets remained available Wednesday night on resale sites.
Cunningham’s comments have drawn both support and criticism around the league. Coaches and players at other stops have emphasized inclusion, according to CBS Texas. Organizers of Thursday’s Dallas event say they are backing what they call fairness in women’s sports.
