Wylie ISD has accepted the resignation of Wylie East High School Principal Tiffany Doolan following months of public scrutiny over an unauthorized religious materials distribution incident at the campus in February.

Doolan notified the district on May 26 that she would step down after 19 years of service. The district announced its acceptance of her resignation on May 28. The move comes after what Wylie ISD has called the “Why Islam” incident on February 2, when members of an outside religious organization set up a table during the school day and distributed Qurans, hijabs, and pamphlets about Sharia law to students without district approval.

The materials were presented in a common area near the cafeteria during lunch, sponsored by the school’s Muslim Student Association. District officials later confirmed that proper visitor protocols and approval procedures for outside groups were not followed. A staff member was placed on administrative leave during the investigation, and the district acknowledged the event should not have occurred.

The incident quickly drew strong reactions from parents and community members, with many expressing concerns about religious materials being distributed without parental notification. Some students also raised questions about fairness, noting that similar distributions from other religious groups might not be permitted. Doolan had previously participated in a school Muslim Student Association event related to World Hijab Day.

In its statement, Wylie ISD said it has taken full responsibility for the procedural breakdown and has since strengthened policies regarding guest speakers, student clubs, and distribution of materials on campus. The district described the resignation as Doolan’s personal decision and emphasized her long service to the community.

The controversy has highlighted ongoing debates in North Texas suburbs about religion in public schools and parental involvement. No injuries or safety incidents were reported in connection with the February event. An interim principal is expected to be named soon as the district moves forward.
