A newly approved public school curriculum in Texas is drawing criticism and legal warnings from civil rights groups.
The State Board of Education approved the Bluebonnet curriculum despite concerns that it includes biblical teachings. Attorney Chloe Kempf with the ACLU said the curriculum likely violates the Constitution by favoring one religion over others.
"If they adopt this curriculum, it will likely be violating the Constitutional rights of all of their students," she said.
The ACLU issued a warning this week, saying it is monitoring the curriculum’s rollout and cautioning that its use could expose school districts to lawsuits. Several of the state’s largest districts have already announced they do not plan to implement it.
