With many North Texas cities regulating, or thinking of regulating short term rentals like VRBO or AirBnB, some economists are predicting hard times for the STR industry.

A new report from All-The-Rooms, a short term rental analytics firm, shows a nearly fifty percent drop in revenues in some major cities.

Third on the list is Austin where in the year between May of last year and May of this year, STR revenues dropped 46.1%.

San Antonio is 5th with a decline of 43.8%. The two biggest drops are Phoenix and Sevierville, Tennessee both down more than 47%.

Industry analyst Nick Gerli writes 'I think "newbie" Airbnb owners who bought over the last 1-2 years with a mortgage are in trouble."
