Remember in Caddyshack when Judge Smails told Danny that “the world needs ditch diggers, too?”

Well, Texas could use some new doctors right about now.

Dr. Christian Cable, a physician at Baylor College of Medicine in Temple, pointed to Texas’ rapidly growing population as the reason for the doctor shortage.  “Texas is growing faster even than the planning for physicians and that’s what we’re trying to solve," he told 25 News.

Medical student Katy Long added that she believes the problem is two-fold: a “general trend” of people moving away from primary care along with just how expensive medical school is.  “The cost isn’t cheap” she said.

Dr. Cable says Texas only has 200 physicians for every 100,000 people compared to 250 doctors for every 100,000 across the nation.
