U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) is supporting Gov. Greg Abbott’s request for federal reimbursement of the $11 billion Texas has spent on border security under Operation Lone Star.

Cornyn said Texas was forced to step in to handle what he described as the federal government’s responsibility to secure the southern border. The senator is following up on a letter Abbott sent to the Texas congressional delegation last month, urging lawmakers to press for repayment from Washington.

Operation Lone Star, launched in 2021, has deployed state resources, including National Guard troops and Department of Public Safety officers, in an effort to curb illegal immigration and drug trafficking along the Texas-Mexico border.
