
Texas’s two U.S. senators admit that the economic fallout from the Trump administration’s tariffs could have an impact on the 2026 midterm elections.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), who is up for re-election next year, is closely watching the markets as volatility continues to rattle investors. While he acknowledged growing concerns, Cornyn said he remained optimistic that stock prices would rebound once the economic uncertainty clears.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who does not face re-election until 2030, also raised alarms — but with a broader political warning. Cruz said that if the U.S. economy slips into a recession, the 2026 midterm elections could be, in his words, “a blood bath” for Republicans.
