You can add Kaufman County to the list of places where disasters have been declared ahead of next month's total solar eclipse.

Kaufman County Judge Jakie Allen issued the disaster declaration for April 5th through the 9th, with the county expecting around 200,000 visitors during that time, that is twice the county's population of 100,000.

Officials remind residents to create a family communications plan to ensure you know where to meet up if you get separated.

They are also warning residents that limited cell phone service, due to heightened network use, is to be expected.

The county has two large cities, Kaufman and Terrell, which are along the center line of the path of totality.

Other Texas counties have already declared emergencies ahead of the eclipse including Bell, Kerr, Travis, and Kendall counties.

Many school districts have also canceled classes for that day including Lake Travis, Fredericksburg, San Marcos, and Dripping Springs.
