"We have packed almost 7,000 already that will be going to deployed service members," says Amy Palmer, President and CEO of Soldier's Angels. "But we'll also be supporting activated guard and reservists who are deployed stateside for the holidays … and veterans that will be hospitalized over the holidays. We'll have a lot of people we'll be supporting with these stockings."

Palmer says you can pledge as many stockings as you want, from 1 to 500.

Certain items, like glass, glitter and alcohol, cannot be included in the stockings. But Palmer says other supplies, like beef jerky, puzzles, cards and nuts make perfect stocking stuffers. Check out the full list of recommendations for what to include, as well as what to leave out, here.

"It's a great project for a family to do, an organization, a company," Palmer says. "Just pledge in advance, because at some point we will cut off registration."

She says the stockings serve as a reminder for active military and veterans that they haven't been forgotten, they're connected and appreciated.

"It really lifts their spirits," she says. "It makes a big difference for a lot of the people who receive these stockings."
