Officials with the Texas state health department say nearly 16.3 million Texans have gotten both shots and are considered 'fully vaccinated.' More than 3.7 million have received a booster shot.
Doctors initially said 67-70 percent of the population would need to be vaccinated to reach herd immunity. But now because of variants the percentage is a little higher, and some doctors think it might be unattainable.
The CDC recently moved away from messaging that touts herd immunity as a national goal for the U.S.
