Republicans are setting their sights on two congressional seats in Texas as prime pickup opportunities in the next election, according to a new list released by the Republican Congressional Committee.

The targeted seats are held by Democratic Representatives Vicente Gonzalez and Henry Cuellar, both of whom are viewed as vulnerable. Political analyst Mark Jones from Rice University says Republicans are likely to pour substantial financial resources into border towns like Brownsville and Laredo in an effort to flip the districts.

Complicating matters for Cuellar is an ongoing federal bribery investigation, which has cast a shadow over his re-election prospects.
