A man wanted in a mass murder near Chicago, Illinois has died from suicide as federal agents moved in to arrest him in Texas.
The suspect in eight murders this weekend near Chicago was found Monday night in Central Texas and committed suicide. The Joliet Police Department says Romeo Nance, 23, killed eight people at three different locations.
Police say a ninth person was shot but survived. Joliet Police and the Will County Sheriff's Office were working together in the investigation. Joliet Police say the FBI Fugitive Task Force joined the search for Nance and notified other agencies.
About 1,200 miles away in Natalia, Texas, the Medina County Sheriff's Office says it received a call Nance was driving into town from neighboring Bexar County, where San Antonio is located.
The sheriff's office says it worked with Texas DPS and US Marshals during a stand-off at a gas station along I-35 in Natalia. The Medina County Sheriff's Office says the stand-off ended with Nance shooting and killing himself.
Law enforcement agencies say they are working together to figure out why Nance might have killed the eight people in Illinois and then driven to Texas. They say he knew all eight victims, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
