The Texas A&M Forest Service has increased its Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to 4 on a scale of 1-5, all because of high fire danger across much of the state.

Officials say about 75% of Texas is under either Heat Advisories, Excessive Heat Warnings, or Red Flag Warnings today. All of Texas remains under fire danger ranging from moderate to very high except for four Panhandle Counties of Hansford, Ochletree, Lipscomb and Hemphill.

Nine Wildfires are still burning in Texas this morning. The largest is the 2500 acre Zapata County Jennings fire which is now sixty percent contained.

The Forest Service's Level Four designates "a very high volume of wildfires including large fires and fires that are resistant to control."

Plus, we can expect continued mobilization of interagency resources and the activation of incident management teams may occur.
