Texas is blocking Texas A&M’s mascot, Reveille X, from appearing on the sideline at Friday’s rivalry game in Austin, matching A&M’s decision last season to keep Bevo XV out of Kyle Field.
The announcement comes as both schools finalize gameday plans for the renewed Lone Star Showdown, one of college football’s oldest and most intense rivalries.
Texas officials cited limited sideline space as the reason for the restriction — the same explanation A&M used in 2024 when Bevo was not permitted on their field. The move has drawn attention from fans who view it as the latest symbolic exchange between the two programs, particularly as the rivalry continues to regain steam after its long hiatus.
Reveille, the collie that serves as Texas A&M’s live mascot, has been a fixture at Aggie games for decades, just as Bevo has at Texas. Despite the absence of A&M’s mascot, the Longhorns say all other traditional game elements will proceed as planned as the two teams meet again in one of the season’s most anticipated matchups.
