With the state legislature back in session, Texas Republican Party Chair Abraham George expressed optimism about advancing the party's key priorities, even as House Speaker Dustin Burrow’s election garnered bipartisan support.

George said Republicans are focused on addressing critical issues, including border security, improvements to power and water infrastructure, and election security.

"We have eight priorities that we put together, we are expecting to have every one of those pass," he said. "On top of that, I personally added school choice, property tax reform, and protection of life as three other working committees."

He added that with Republicans split on their vote for Speaker between Burrows and Rep. David Cook (R-Mansfield), he thinks there are rogue GOP members in the House.

"I don't think the party is split, we have about somewhere between 25-30 Republicans, elected officials, House reps, who like to see Democrats in charge of the Texas House," George said.

Burrow’s bipartisan election could signal challenges ahead, but George remains confident that the Republican majority will push its agenda forward in the coming weeks.
