State lawmakers will open their biennial session Tuesday, January 14. The legislature meets for regular sessions every two years.
In December, State Comptroller Glenn Hegar said the legislature would have $20 billion in unspent money from the previous budget cycle.
"The legislature will have a lot of tools to deal with issues, whether it's road infrastructure, water infrastructure, electrical grid infrastructure, public education, higher education," he said.
Hegar will release an updated revenue estimate for the next budget cycle before the next session starts.
Governor Greg Abbott says the state's economy continued to grow in 2024. He says the state has benefitted from "increased investments in our career and technical skills training programs."
"Through innovation, dependability, and our world-class workforce, our manufacturing industry ensures ‘Made in Texas’ remains a powerful global brand,” Abbott wrote in a statement.
Abbott's office says Texas leads the nation in semiconductor production. In March, he announced the formation of the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium Executive Committee to bring together manufacturers and education leaders to attract additional investment.
Abbott says he also attended economic development trips to India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the United Kingdom in 2024.
