More than a dozen anti-vaccination bills have been filed in the Texas Legislature, with proposals ranging from allowing parents to opt out of vaccines to giving lawmakers the final say the last word on which shots schools can require.

With declining immunization rates, Texas would see a resurgence of diseases, like whooping cough, measles, and even polio, Terri Burke, the executive director of the Immunization Partnership said.

"The practical reality is we will be less healthy," Burke said. "And I really don't want to overstate this: children will die."

Under the current law, parents can complete a non-medical exemption form if their children are unvaccinated, have it notarized, and turn it in to their school. One of the new bills would eliminate the requirement for a notary seal.
