A new report has shed some light on racial profiling by police in Texas.
The report was put together by the Institute for Predictive Analytics in Criminal Justice - a joint venture by Tarleton State University and the Texas A&M System. It found that while Hispanics accounted for the most police searches, they did not account for the most times that contraband was actually found. That distinction goes to Caucasians.
Dr. Alex del Carmen of Tarleton State University said that the findings beg a serious question.
"It brings into question why it is that Hispanics are being searched at such a high rate in spite of the fact that contraband is not being found," del Carmen said.
Furthermore, the study showed that Caucasians were the ones most likely to be involved when force is applied during a traffic stop.
